Secret New Features in the ACNH 3.0 Update Revealed (That Nintendo Didn’t Fully Explain)

The 3.0 update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons arrived earlier than expected, catching many players off guard in a good way. Nintendo quietly rolled the update out to align with global time zones as the Switch 2 edition launched in places like New Zealand, meaning players everywhere could jump in right away.

While the official trailer teased some major additions, it barely scratched the surface. Once you actually load into the game, it becomes clear that Nintendo tucked in a long list of quality-of-life improvements and subtle design changes that weren’t fully explained or mentioned at all.

After diving into the update, here are the most important secret features you’ll want to know about.

Bulk Crafting (and Bulk Cooking) Is Finally Here

We knew bulk crafting was coming, but the details matter, and Nintendo left those out.

When you interact with a DIY bench or kitchen now, you’ll see a short explanation of the new crafting system. The biggest change is this: crafting and cooking can now pull materials directly from your home storage. As long as you’re on your own island, you no longer need to stuff your pockets with wood, iron, or ingredients before making anything.

Even better, the update quietly confirms something many players hoped for: bulk cooking is now possible, not just bulk crafting. That means recipes like bread, soup, or other food items can be prepared in batches instead of one painful plate at a time.

How bulk crafting actually works

  • Press Y while crafting to choose a quantity
  • You can make up to 10 items at once
  • The game prioritizes materials in your pockets first, then storage
  • The limit keeps the game’s slow, cozy pacing intact but saves huge amounts of time

This single change makes tasks like crafting fish bait or cooking meals dramatically less tedious.

A New “DIY Requests” Section in Your Recipes

Another easy-to-miss change appears inside your DIY Recipes app. There’s now a brand-new section called DIY Requests, which ties directly into the hotel feature.

Instead of running back to the dock every time to check what items need to be crafted for Kapp’n, you can now view these requests from anywhere in your menu. This makes earning hotel tokens much smoother and removes a lot of unnecessary back-and-forth.

If you’re planning to grind hotel content or unlock items quickly, this small menu change will save you a surprising amount of time.

Terraforming Got a Huge (and Quiet) Upgrade

One of the most impactful improvements in 3.0 is something designers will notice immediately.

When terraforming outdoors:

  • Hold L to snap your character to the nearest cardinal direction (up, down, left, right)
  • Move without constantly turning your body
  • Press A while holding L to use the active tool instantly

This makes terraforming faster, cleaner, and far less frustrating, especially when working on straight paths, cliffs, and rivers.

Even better, fence placement received the same directional controls, speeding up one of the most time-consuming parts of island design.

There doesn’t appear to be any unlock requirement, if you have terraforming tools, these upgrades should be available right away.

Reetti’s Services Come With Hidden Details

Reetti’s arrival was already exciting, but the update quietly adds some important details about how he works.

Cost & Usage

  • Reetti costs up to 60,000 Bells per day
  • That fee covers unlimited use for the entire day
  • The first time you use him is completely free

Want to flatten your entire island in one go? It still only costs 60k. For late-game players with plenty of Bells, this is incredibly reasonable.

A Surprise Bonus: Cockroach Removal

One feature Nintendo never mentioned at all: Reetti can clear cockroaches from your home.

If you’ve been away for months (or years) and dread stomping through every room, he’ll take care of it for you. This feels intentionally designed for returning players—and it’s a welcome touch.

The New Transceiver

Instead of using the Rescue Service app, you receive a new transceiver item that lets you call Reetti directly. After finishing his work, he’ll even wander around your island briefly, adding a bit more life and personality to the world.

You Can Fully Decorate the Hotel Dock (Yes, Even Block It)

Many players assumed the new hotel would lock down dock customization, but Nintendo surprised everyone.

You can:

  • Decorate the entire dock
  • Place items right up to the hotel entrance
  • Even block the entrance completely if you want

This level of freedom is something Animal Crossing has never allowed before. It opens the door to custom plazas, themed entrances, and creative builds around the hotel area.

As a bonus, you can place a crafting bench next to the dock’s request box, making daily crafting tasks faster and more convenient.

New Nook Miles Goals (and Titles) for Completionists

The hotel update also introduces brand-new Nook Miles achievements, especially tied to hotel room design. Completing these unlocks new titles, giving 100% completion players fresh goals to chase.

If you love checking off every achievement, this adds a meaningful reason to fully engage with the hotel system rather than treating it as a one-time novelty.

The Hotel Shop Can Be Upgraded Over Time

One detail Nintendo didn’t mention at all: the hotel shop can be upgraded.

At first, the shop’s inventory is quite small. However, it’s clear that many more items exist. As you design more hotel rooms and progress through the system, the shop expands, unlocking additional furniture and decor.

While the exact requirements aren’t fully confirmed yet, everything points to room design milestones as the key. The more you engage with the hotel, the more rewards you’ll unlock, making it a long-term feature rather than a one-and-done activity.
